Alex Lemmel

Law Clerk

Alex Lemmel joins Savastano Brungard & Geyer bringing a background that few can match. A Certified Public Accountant with over a decade of experience in financial reporting, compliance, and contracts, Alex offers clients a rare combination of legal acumen and deep business fluency that informs every matter they handle.

Before entering law, Alex spent nearly a decade on the business side of contracts and financial decisions: first as an auditor at RSM US LLP,  then preparing financial statements and SEC filings at Abercrombie & Fitch Co., and ultimately as Controller and Contracts and Compliance Manager at StoneAge, Inc. in Durango. Along the way, Alex prepared budgets, presented to boards, guided companies through acquisitions, and negotiated contracts from the other side of the table. That experience also means Alex knows what it feels like to be the client: uncertain whether a contract clause is a real risk or a non-issue, unsure whether something warrants a call to a lawyer, and weighing legal concerns against the practical demands of running a business. That business intelligence and empathy for the client's position informs everything Alex does, whether advising on a transaction, serving as outside general counsel, or litigating a contract dispute, employment matter, or civil claim.

Alex graduated from the University of Denver Sturm College of Law in December 2025 with a 3.83 GPA and gained practical legal experience through internships with the Colorado Attorney General, Sherman & Howard LLC, TTEC Corporation, Leprino Food Company, and Duthie Savastano Brungard. Alex is currently sitting for the Colorado Bar and expects to be licensed in spring 2026.

Alex has been an active member of the Durango community, serving as Board Treasurer for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southwestern Colorado, as a board member of the League of Women Voters of La Plata County, and as President of OUTLaws, the University of Denver Law School's LGBTQ+ student organization.

Originally from Columbus, Ohio, Alex has been in Durango since 2016 when their husband joined the faculty at Fort Lewis College. Outside the office, Alex can be found backpacking, snowshoeing, or hiking with their beloved dog Reggie, or back at home baking bread, making pasta, and perfecting their patisserie skills.
